Nature Friendly Tourist Destinations in Dehradun

Dehadrun is the capital city of UIttarakhand, located along the Doon Valley. It is nestled in the mountain ranges of the Himalayas in the north. Its serene and nature friendly environment attracts large numbers of tourists every year.

Dehadrun is one of the oldest cities of India. It is also known as the “Adobe of Drona.” It was named after its chief district Dehra Dun. The city is located along the northwestern side of the Gangetic plains, surrounded by Himalayan ranges in the north, Shivalik Hills at the south, River Ganga in the east and the River Yamuna in the west.

Dehadrun is an important center during the period of Garhwal rulers. It is presently the home of many educational and training institutes, and popular tourist spots, in a natural and friendly landscape.

Sahatradhara
Sahatradhara means “a thousand fold springs.” It is an ideal tourist spot that guarantees breathtaking views of the Baldi River and its caves. The place is located 11 kms from Dehra Dun.

This lovely waterfall of about 9 meters has particles forming and projecting ridges for a variety of caves. Sahatradhara streams present a calm environment aside from its therapeutic value. A sulfur spring possesses certain medicinal properties that can cure skin infections.

The place is best viewed during rainy seasons because of the conversational violent flow of its waters. The captivating scenery and vegetation make it a dream destination of many tourists.

Malsi Deer Park
Malsi Deer Park is a popular excursion spot located at the foothills of Shivalik range. This place is approximately 10 kilometers away from Dehradun. It is a mini zoological park acting as the home of the two horned deer Neelgai, and birds. Other animal species include tigers, peacock and rabbits. The park also comprises of a children’s park surrounded by vast natural sceneries. The clean environment makes it an ideal picnic spot for families.

Robber’s Cave – Guchhupani
Robber’s Cave is a blissful picnic spot where a cold spring flows underneath the mountains of the Himalayas. It is located 8 kms away from city Bus stand and 22 kms from Dehradun. A forest rest house provides great accommodations for a green environment. Caves can be access barefooted or with gum boots.

Lachhiwala
Lachhiwala is also a popular picnic spot located in the heart of Uttaranchal. It is 3 kms away from Doiwala and 22 kms from Dehradun. Tourists can enjoy the serenity and artistic beauty of the place without any pollution. Accommodations are located along the Forest Rest House and surrounded by natural landscapes. The place is the best gift for your loved ones.

Bhagirathi Resort
Bhagirathi Resort is the best place for swimming. The spot is located at Selaqui just 18 kms along Chakrata Road. The place is also popular for its artificial pools having depths from 3 to 6 feet and waterslides and fountains. Tourists can view the breathtaking scenes of the Himalayan Mountain ranges.

Asan Barrage Water Sports Resort
Asan Barrage is a water sport resort developed by Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam in 1994. It is popularly known as the Dhalipur Lake. The resort is situated 43 Kms from Dehradun, offering water boating, skiing, kayaking, rowing and canoeing activities. Migratory birds can also be seen in the vicinity during the winter season.

Rajaji National Park
Rajaji National Park is situated along the lush valleys of the Shivalik ranges. Rajaji was named after the late Shri C.Rajgoplalachari. The park represents the largest area of the Shiwalik Eco system. It is the home of 315 species of birds and 23 mammals. Its 820 square kilometer park is also the home of the many elephants, bears, wild boars and tigers, cobras, monitor lizards and wild cats.

Dehradun City is famous for its many tourist spots and its temperate climate. These nature friendly destinations are best suited for families and friends who want to experienced serenity in a fresh natural environment.
