San Jose is a city in Costa Rica. It is a great place for a vacation for it offers the best tourist sites, museums and hotels.

Sites to See in San Jose, Costa Rica

Museo del Jade

This is often called also as The Jade Museum. It is situated on Avenida 5 to 7 Calle 11 to 13 bis INS. The museum is now located on the1st floor of the building. For more information, you can contact 223 5800. The museum is open from 8:30 am up to 3 pm every Mondays to Fridays. Admission fee costs 500 Colones.

Museo Oro Precolombino

This site is also called The Gold Museum found in their popular plaza. For bookings and inquiries, you may contact 243 202. This museum is open from 10 am up to 4:30 pm every Tuesdays to Sundays. The admission fee here is 9 US dollars for foreigners and 4.5 US dollars for students with school identification cards. The gold collection of this site consists of 1,600 pieces of gold work from the Pre Columbian era that goes way back from 500 to 1500 AD.

It holds detailed information about the making and processing of the different gold pieces as well as the religious, social and cultural meanings. You will find the Numismatic Museum along with the Temporary Exhibition Galleries on this museum. On the museum’s entrance, there you will find a tourist office and museum gift shop.

Museo de los Ninos

This is also called The Children s Museum and Antigua Penetenciaria meaning the Old Prison. For reservations and other information about this museum, feel free to contact them at 258 4929. It is open from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm every Mondays to Fridays. During the weekends, it is open from 10 am to 4 pm. The admission fee for adults is 600 Colones and 300 Colones for children.

Museo Nacional

This museum is located at Calle 1 Avenida 2, San Jose Costa Rica. It is open from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm every Tuesday to Sunday. For ticket reservations, promos, packages and other stuff, call the museum at 257 1433. It has a big butterfly garden as well as a selection of huge stone spheres from the Valley of Diquis along the Pacific Ocean. Museo Nacional is formerly an old fort used in the revolution of 1948.

Museo de arte Costarricense

This museum is located along the eastern end of the Sabana Park. This site was formerly used as the city s major airport terminal during the time when La Sabana was still an airport. For reservations, bookings and inquiries, contact the museum at 222 715. It is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10 am until 4 pm. On weekends, the museum is open from 10 am up to 2 pm. Admission fee for adults is 5 US dollars and 3 US dollars for students with school identification cards.

Insect Museum

This museum is located at the University of Costa Rica. It has an elegant collection of insects and exotic bugs. Admission fee costs not more than 10 US dollars.
