Carpooling is a great way to get from one place to another. However, many people don t like to carpool because as human beings, we tend towards not wanting to share with other people a lot of the time. And while carpooling may cut down on the overall cost that someone may expend on maintaining a vehicle (because they are putting less wear and tear on their car), it is at best an inconvenience still.

There are some great benefits to using a carpool. For starters, carpooling is fantastic for the environment. Think about it for a minute if you will. Imagine if everyone in the state of North Carolina utilized some sort of carpool. How many motorists do you think would be on the roadways? Would the roads still be as crowded during rush hour? It almost makes you think of a day and age in which people who work for certain companies will all be placed in the same neighborhood, this way they can carpool to work. In some cases, this is already happening!

A few years back, my father s company relocated from New York to New Jersey. Rather than fight through hours of traffic to get to work and then fight hours of traffic getting back to work, my father decided to purchase a condo in New Jersey so that he could be close to the office; then he would drive home on the weekends. Well, wouldn t you know that there were a bunch of other New Yorker employees who lived at the same condominium complex and were doing the same thing? They would carpool to and from work during the week, and it was convenient for them to do so because at the end of the workday, they always had to drop each other off in the same spot in the same area.

Granted, this is only one effective way that shows the benefits of using a carpool system. On the flip side, using a carpool makes you more dependent on other people, especially when those people are your friends. If you are late to work one morning because you couldn t get your child dressed in the morning or because you overslept, it s not just you who is going to be late. Rather, you will then make the rest of the people in your carpooling group late as well. And then, which on of you is going to point the first finger to say that you didn t do it?

Personally, I would love to help save the environment by joining a carpool, but at the same time, I really enjoy driving alone. I use that time to listen to whatever music I want as loud as I want. I can eat whatever I want without someone complaining, and I can have private telephone conversations with people all of which you cannot really do in a small crowded space where other people are listening and watching! There are also other perks of using a carpool system. For starters, carpooling may help to introduce you to new people!
