Baton Rouge is the 2nd largest city and the capital city of Louisiana, USA. The city is a major petrochemical, industrial and port center of the American South. Its port is the 9th largest in the United States in terms of weight. It has a humid subtropical climate with hot and humid summers, mild winters and major rainfall all year.

The city also has an expanding visual arts scene fully centered downtown. It is the middle of South Louisiana cultures having a blend of Creole and Cajun Baptists as well as Catholics of the South Mississippi and Florida Parishes. It is a city dedicated heavily into college sports. The Southern University Jaguars and LSU tigers are the 2 popular teams and provide the city’s biggest entertainment every football season.

Shaw Center for the Arts
This 125,000 square feet fine arts museum, education center and performing arts venue is situated in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The center includes the LSU School of Art Gallery, the Louisiana State University Museum of Art and the 325 seat Manship Theater, classrooms, a park and a rooftop sushi restaurant. It also includes the largest collection of Newcomb Pottery in the U.S. The skin of this center is built with both private and public funding.

Baton Rouge Zoo
This zoo is situated about 15 minutes north of downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It is operated by the BREC and the Recreation and Park Commission of East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. It is the first zoo in Louisiana to achieve the honor of being accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It is open between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily and until 6:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The entrance fee for adults is 6 US dollars, 5 US dollars for senior citizens, and 3 US dollars for children of 2 to 13 years old.

Louisiana State Museum
