So you made the decision to vacation on the beautiful island of Jamaica. You made a great choice, but now you have another important decision to make: which all inclusive resort should you stay at? If you didn’t already know, you have lots of great choices. What should or shouldn’t you do when making your decision?

DO opt for all inclusive. If you use an online travel website to examine your Jamaica staying options, you are likely to see traditional vacation resorts and hotels mixed in with all inclusive ones. Right away, I am sure you will be captivated by the lower price; however, things aren’t what they seem at first. By opting for an all inclusive resort in Jamaica, you get more than just a roof over your head; you get a travel package. That travel package should include your room, food, drinks, snacks, and some forms of onsite entertainment. With super inclusive packages, more entertainment, qualifying airport transfers, and tips are included as well. Yes, you pay more money upfront, but you usually end up saving in the end.

DON’T base your choice solely on price. Even if you are planning an all inclusive Jamaica vacation on a budget, price is one of the last factors you want to consider. Why? Because it has the potential to run your trip. If you consider nothing more than price you may end up staying at a hotel that includes all your food, has one small swimming pool, and a fitness room for you to use. Truly all inclusive resorts in Jamaica have much more to offer. For example, you are likely to find multiple swimming pools, multiple bars, multiple restaurants, a fitness center, a game room, and an onsite spa. Doesn’t that sound much better? Choose the resorts you like the best and then price compare to see which one has the better deals.

DO head straight to the resort’s online website. Yes, it may be easier to familiarize yourself with Jamaica resorts by using a third party travel website. You get all of your options right from one place. You can start from there if you want, but then you want to find the resort’s official website. Why? This website will have more pictures, more information that is accurate and up to date, as well as a full list of inclusions. On a third party travel website, you are likely to get the abridged version and this doesn’t give you the full picture. When comparing all inclusive resorts in Jamaica to find that perfect fit, you need as much information as possible.

DON’T make the mistake of assuming all resorts have the same inclusions because they do not. Yes, you will find a number of similarities in terms of resorts, but there are no guarantees they will be the same. Making assumptions may end up ruining an otherwise good trip. Typically, a beachfront resort will have snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, and kayaking available and listed as inclusions, but it will not hurt to check. As mentioned above, all inclusive resorts should have a detailed list on their website of what is or isn’t included. If you cannot find this list, use the 1 800 number found on the website to call and ask.

DO book your trip through the resort directly. As stated above, it is best to compare all inclusive resorts in the Jamaica by going to directly to the resort sites. This is because you get all the information you could ever want or need. The same holds true for booking your trip. Once you make your decision, go to the resort’s website. For starters, you are likely to find more travel deals and discounts. If these offers aren’t listed on the front page, look for a link titled along the lines of “Special Offers.” Moreover, you won’t have as many fees; you know the fees that most third party travel websites bombard you with.

DON’T forget the passport. If you didn’t already know, a passport is required for travel from the United States to the Caribbean and visa versa. If you do not have a passport, give yourself time to order one. In fact, that is just one reason why you should consider making your travel plans months in advance of your anticipated travel dates.
