Denpasar is an important city of Indonesia and is the capital city of the region and province of Bali. The city is also very significant from the fact that it hosts one of Indonesia’s biggest airports which is named as “Ngurah Rai Airport”. The airport itself is the one of the available options for entering into the province of Bali. According to 2002 statistics, the population of the city is approximately 491,500. Denpasar has a very major importance in the history of not only the city itself but also of country. As at the time of Badung the city was capital city of the Badung Kingdom. In 1906 the city was conquered by the Dutch. They looted the Royal Palace of the city and gave it the status of Dutch Headquarters at that time.

Denpasar is a good tourist destination as the island itself has number of very well managed and established beaches where lot of people like to spend their weekends with their families. Other than weekends these beaches are crowded even in week days as well from families and tourists visiting the city from all over Indonesia and from other countries. Among these number of beaches Kuta Beach which is famous worldwide for surfing purposes. Also Legian Beach and Canguu Beach are among famous beaches of the island. The sand color of all the beaches of Denpasar is white, which is another attractive and interesting feature. Sanur beach located in the heart of the island is mostly famous for sunbathing as the beach receives a maximum number of beautiful sunshine days than all the other beaches.

Denpasar mostly generates its revenue from the tourism to the area, as the city is host to some of the most beautiful sights of the world. The well decorated and free of every type of pollution beaches are mostly destinations for thousand of tourists per year which gives a huge boost to the Indonesian economy overall.

The main airport of the city is Ngurah Rai airport and very close to this airport located is the region of Kuta which is also another destination for tourists because of available hotels, marketplaces, coffee bars, and many restaurants. After visiting the Denpasar beach area it has been seen that among tourists it is very common that after their visit to beaches, they spend some time in the area of Kuta for a nice cup of coffee. Some of them even like to spend the nights in these well furnished hotels and restaurants.

The most unique thing in Denpasar is its shops of jewelry and other handcrafts. The jewelry designs of the city are famous all over the island. Tourists are mostly attracted to these unique styles of handcrafts. These include many types of pottery designs, jewelry designs, textile designs and many others. Denpasar and Kuta, Bali region has overall gained a very important position as being considered as heaven for shoppers. Among all these handcrafts the most unique item is called the “batik” cloth. It is very fine material, looks very beautiful and also is very cheap in the region.
