New Orleans is one of the largest and the most fascinating cities of Louisiana. The city of New Orleans is situated at the southeast end of the state of Louisiana. The city is blessed with great natural scenic beauty as it is situated right in the middle of Mississippi River and Lake Ponchartrain.

New Orleans is one of the few cities in the world that had been under the control of three nations. This city belonged to Spain, France and United States. It was founded by French in the year 1718 and named after the Duke of Orleans. Later on in the year 1762, the city was surrendered to Spain. But in the year 1800, it was again returned back to France.

New Orleans is a commercially significant place and an international seaport connecting almost half of the United States. It is also preferred by several oil companies and they have their corporate offices here. It is also a major service and distribution center of offshore equipment manufacturers and distributors. The back bone of the economy of the city is the manufacturing industry along with petrochemical, aerospace and shipbuilding industries.

Some of the most prominent attractions of the city include The Aquarium of the Americas, Audubon Zoo, the Entergy IMAX Theater and the French Market etc.

The Aquarium of the Americas is one of the must visit and most exciting places of New Orleans. This marvelous organization is a part of the Audubon Nature Institute. The Aquarium is home to some of the most fascinating and rare species of animals such as piranhas, anaconda and clown fish along with amazing bonnet head sharks. One can also watch warm weather penguins such as African and Rockhopper penguins.

New Orleans also offers a range of museums such as Confederate Museum, Louisiana State Museum that consists of five historic buildings, the Musee Conti Wax Museum that houses several wax idols of famous local residents of the city.

Confederate Museum is the oldest museum of the state of Louisiana. This magnificent museum was constructed in the year 1891 for storing war records, artifacts and remains of the Civil War. Most of the exhibits and contents of the museum were donated by the people of the city. One can find the uniforms and attires worn by the officers and soldiers during Civil War along with Confederate weapons that include guns, bullets and swords.
