Not only does it have ancient walls and magnificent villas and alleyways but also there is evidence from excavations that it was in use by the Phoenicians from around 700BC.
The famous three cities locations (comprising Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea) will show you the ancient heart of Malta – which is where people lived and defended themselves against marauding invaders before Valletta existed.
If you enjoy the sea, taking a boat trip to the famous blue grotto (a series of huge caves in the sea) will be a must, as may be a short 5 kilometre boat trip to see Malta’s sister island of Gozo. The capital of Victoria (Rabat), is fantastic to explore as is the coastline of the wonderfully unspoilt tiny island.
