Staying in Silver Sands villas has many advantages. For one, it is your home away from home. Whether you stay in a villa or a cottage, you'll be offered the best of services at the most affordable costs. And that is just part of the picture. The other is that a stay in Jamaica villas lets you experience the best of what the country has to offer in terms of hospitality and culture. Added to this is the fact that Silver Sands villas also provide you convenient access to some of Jamaica's most important tourist attractions. One such attraction is the Kool Runnings Water Park in Negril. Established in early 2007, the park is a family-friendly option, and like Silver Sands villas, caters to all tastes and age groups.

Go through the entrance of the park and you will be confronted with a water world promising you all possibilities for an exciting fun-filled day, ranging from the staid and secure slides to the ones that test the spirits of the adventurous.

So lets first begin with those who want something really tranquil. The best place to start is a ride down the "Rio Bueno," a lazy river that is one-quarter mile long. Sail gently down the river and take in the scenic views of the lush Jamaican landscape.

Looking for something more active? Check out the "thrill rides" that have such interesting names as Jamaica Bobsled Ride, the Duppy Conqueror, the Green Grotto, the Kickpuppalick, Lightening Bolt, the Sly Mongoose, or the Red Snapper. Well you get the picture. To give you an idea, take the Green Grotto slide named after the famous cave and underwater lake on the island. This 40 feet high, 54 inches wide, and 385 feet long slide features the latest in 3D virtual reality image and sound technology and is appropriately designated ‘the ride of your life.' Take the ride and you will soon find out why. Just to point out that some of these rides are for one person only while there are others with tubes that can accommodate upto three people.

For the children there is the Coconut Island that is definitely worth a visit. The island is perfect for children under 48" (4 feet). It goes without saying that the slides here are less intimidating and end in shallow splash pools. There are well-trained lifeguards on duty here so your kids can look forward to a delightfully safe adventure. Aside from the slides, the other main attractions of the island are Mikie Manatee and Captain Mikie, the mascot of Kool Runnings Water Park and his alter ego who is said to have been shipwrecked there. There is an interesting story that goes that after years of being a mean and thoroughly nasty individual, Captain Mikie finally changed for the better. Today, he welcomes children to share in interactive water games, one of which involves a giant coconut that dumps water on people when they least expect it.

The park has its dry area, one such being the Anancy Village where there is much in store for both the adults and kids. You can check out the traditional merry-go-round called the "Peenie Wallie Carousel," enjoy horseback riding or jump on the "Bug-A-Boo Bungee Trampoline." The ropes and wires of this trampoline are like the web of the spider Anancy, which is famous in traditional Jamaican folktales for its smart tactics. And if you thought that Anancy Village was for the staid, think again. Be prepared for an adrenalin rush at the Palisadoes Go-Kart Track.

And if all this action leaves you hungry, you need not despair. Kool Runnings park has numerous theme based restaurants which serve everything from snacks to traditional Jamaican cuisine.

After an exciting day, it is time to return to your home at Silver Sands villas where after a long relaxing soak in the tub, its time to enjoy a sumptuous dinner prepared by the chef and to share the adventures of the day with your family and to write back home to your loved ones.
