If you are in Barcelona for one day, one week, one month or one year the one certain thing is that you will never run out of things to see and do in this exciting, colorful Mediterranean gem. Barcelona, as you would quickly discover, is a city that offers every visitor an abundance of activities. So, let s look a little more closely at what makes this Catalan corner of Spain one of the most talked about cities in Europe.

The first thing that will probably strike you about the city is the amazing variety of architectural styles. Barcelona s favorite son, Antoni Gaudi, designed many of the modernista buildings in the city – full of wonderfully eccentric shapes, colored tile patterns and twisted columns. La Sagrada Familia, perhaps Barcelona s most famous landmark, is a stunning tribute to Gaudi. The L Eixample area of Barcelona has many spectacular buildings designed by the modernists. Walk through the meandering, atmospheric narrow streets of the Barri Gòtic, though, and you can enter an altogether different era, full to the brim with an older history.

Barcelona is a culture lovers paradise. Packed full of wonderful galleries and museums such as the ramblingly beautiful Picasso Museum in the old city; the museum at Barcelona s astonishing soccer stadium, the Camp Nou; and the stunning Joan Miró Foundation on Montju& #521;c, the hill with spectacular views across the city and the Mediterranean that is the home of the fascinating Spanish Village and the famous Olympic Stadium that brought this city to the world s attention.

Montju& #521;c is, in fact, just one of the many open spaces which help bring some welcome relief from the summer heat in Barcelona but, more than this, contribute to the city s charm. The jewel in the crown is known as Ciutadella, ironically on the site of a much hated former prison, although the most famous is the unforgettable Parc Güell, with its Gaudi designed landscape.

For many visitors, the abiding memory of Barcelona concerns the city s foremost street – Las Ramblas; a broad pedestrian boulevard, completely packed with stalls and street entertainers and lined with restaurants and street cafés all the way from the broad spaces of Plaza Catalunya down to the monument to Christopher Columbus at the sea front. Because, let s not forget, Barcelona is a city by the sea and has superb golden beaches, a thriving modern marina and port district and the unparalleled blue beauty of the Mediterranean.

And yet still there is more to this vibrant, friendly, cosmopolitan city; music lovers will find live music every night of the week, all through the year in venues ranging from small, intimate jazz clubs to state of the art modern concert halls and outdoor stadia. Many of the world s best performers love to play here. From spring onwards, there is hardly a time when there is not a music festival of some kind in the city, especially the famous Sonar festival in the middle of June each year.

And then, of course, this being Spain, there are the bars and restaurants; some of the world s best food can be found here and, if you re looking for a bar, there is everything from your small beach bar to your sparkling night club. Barcelona has it all.

FC Barcelona s famous motto is More than a club and, believe me, Barcelona is more than a city . Come and see it for yourself.
